Grapeseed Carrier Oil – Why It’s Our Preferred Choice

Essential oils have been used for decades because of their healing and uplifting properties but as beneficial as they are, they can also be potent.

Carrier oils are blended with pure essential oils to make them safe for use on your skin. There are several different types of carrier oils, each of which has its own blend of fatty acids and nutrients. Very often, these unique natural properties are overlooked when essential oil products are blended.

By pairing a specific carrier oil with certain essential oils, it can enhance the benefits of the product and extend its shelf life.

Why Grapeseed Carrier Oil

We have chosen to use grapeseed carrier oil in our products for very specific reasons.

As the name suggests, grapeseed oil is extracted from the seeds of grapes, which are packed with nutrients and antioxidants. This means that when this unique carrier oil is blended with essential oils, users get the added benefit of extra protein, vitamin E, minerals and linoleic acid.

Along with the nutrients it offers, grapeseed is our preferred carrier oil because it doesn’t have a greasy effect on the skin. It is also a natural antiseptic, which means even those with acne-prone skin can safely use it. And even though it is lighter than many other oils, it can still moisturise the skin too.

How Carrier Oils are Extracted

Cold pressing, the expeller method and solvent extraction are some of the methods that can be used to extract carrier oils for use in essential oil products. Cold pressing is the most popular method by far though.

One of the main reasons why cold pressing is the preferred method is because it’s a chemical-free process. When this method is used, the seeds are placed in a press with a rotating screw. This screw is what pushes the seeds through a barrel, compressing them until the pressure forces the oils out – any debris remains inside the barrel.

Thereafter, the oil is filtered, resulting in a cleaner and purer oil that has higher levels of both scent and colour.
